About Us

Why We Exist

CCAGTC  is a non-profit organization of parents and educators who recognize the need to foster the growth and development of underrepresented gifted and talented individuals in our community.

CCAGTC recognizes the unique needs of underrepresented gifted & talented students and the necessity of specialized instruction to meet those needs is recognized as a right and not a privilege.

Research Shows:

• Black, Latino, Native American and Pacific Islanders , students from low-income families, English learners, and twice exceptional students (gifted students with learning  disabilities) are underrepresented in advanced programs and courses

• Low-income students with reading and math achievement levels equal to those of a high- income students are half as likely to receive gifted services as a high-income students

• Marginalized schools rarely identify gifted & talented students in the arts and/or provide opportunities for students to participate in arts programs

 • High-achieving students with financial need are less likely to pursue rigorous coursework or to score highly on achievement tests.

 These students need:

 • To be academically challenged and inspired during school, after school, and in the summers.

 • Parents with information about how to successfully navigate schools, seek identification of their children’s gifts & talents, obtain access to advanced placement, technology, & programs that enhance artistic talents, help their children transition to high school and college and prepare for and apply to good fit colleges.

 • Access to programs & services that enables them to develop their academic and artistic talents.

What we do:

 • Workshops/Webinairs for families about underserved gifted & talented children

• Outreach and advocacy to parents, schools, and public officials

 • Innovative partnerships to help underserved families nurture their childre's gifts & talents

 • Newsletters and other public information
